POBR Day 9



7/14/19

Day nine, Captain’s log: Just a walk in the park, a rocky start as our group got separated. Nuff’ said about that, aside from all that it was a pretty walk and wish we had something as nice at home!! Le sigh. We were brought to this specific trail so that we could see how the city meets nature, the contrast of where we’ve been and where we are. It was interesting to see, a dressed up nature path, all the views of wilderness but with the comforts of the city with the cleared smooth paths and bridges. Finished our brisky walk and we were off to the lovely home of the Joy and Rick once more, to shower up, eat up, work on our blogs, and chill for a bit. That was amazing as I said already, always appreciate a shower. The food was great, and hospitality was  very much appreciated, nice to meet people who have so much kindness in them, a hard thing to come by nowadays.

Blog log: Working on this blog has been pretty fun so far and has forced me to work on my writing skills, upping my expression level. I hope y’all have enjoyed reading it to this point. I am appreciating home a little more than I already did, and have enjoyed seeing the natural beauty of other places. Glad to know there are people out there that are concerned with the present state of the environment.
Dinner dinner dinner: Round two of foods at the Joy-Rick household yummy fajitas, happy to have shared more time with these great people.
Another day in the books, goodnight time to snooze…..lol well I woke up like so many times throughout the night, kept hearing movement outside and a few noises here and there, I wasn’t nervous or scared, just woke up haha.

7/12/19 Day seven, Captain’s Log: Rise and sh ine , Laundry day hooray!!!! I’m always stoked to do laundry, as it is something that I don’t get to do always, haha, so it is especially after like 6 days of wearing some of my clothes twice *cue Beetleguice buoy noise* I’m a stinky skunk yuck. Lava land!: Sound’s like an amusement park, in a way it was. Beautiful views! What a spectacular day. I just loved the way the rocks looked and had a fun time telling my kids about what I had learned later that day. Anywho, learned that this big pile of lava rocks, and this whole landscape used to be a mountain, Mt.Mazama, majestic like any other, but it all just exploded 7000 years ago with lava, heated up fast and cooled down just as quickly which created all of these rocky formations. POBR Day 2

7/7/19 Day two, Captain’s Log:   Slept in 6:30 wake up time. Savored every second of sandman land. Heard a deer in the night/early morning, disregard, as its just a part of time being up here. First things first, breakfast. Nom nom nom. Bacon McMuffins. Fire toasted English muffins, can’t beat that. After our morning nourishment we split into small groups to set up our camera traps. Our objective is to set up these cameras in strategic areas, in hopes of capturing some interesting wildlife. To my surprise I got elected co-leader! First time for that as well, can make one feel nervous, I can’t lie, just don’t want to let anyone down. But you see it is my past experience with the area, being a bit more familiar with these hills, the land of my people, is what earned me this position. POBR Day 12

7/17/19 Day twelve, Captain’s log: Ouch: Woke up this morning feeling like I had gotten in a fight, like a physical fight…. My ribs were hurting me like crazy and super sore like I had been wrestling a bear in the night. Also a little nauseated. Which was a theme I’d find that would carry on for the rest of the day. A visit to the Klamath tribal fisheries and wildlife dept. we learned about the dire situation in which the local sucker fish species are in. Known to the people as C’waan (lost river sucker fish), one of 7 species that are endemic to this area are dwindling, due to several reasons, but one the biggest is the Lower Klamath Lake is being used for corporate agricultural purposes. In doing so they drain the water each spring by 5 feet to water their potato crops, a lake that is only 6ft deep! Water that is much needed for the survival of these fish.
