POBR Day 5
7/10/19
Day five: Woke
this morning, ready to go. Had a good day with the local tribal fire management,
they showed us a video about brining back prescription burns. A method used by
the native Americans, pretty interesting stuff. I was very intrigued with this
part of our trip. I appreciate that they are learning this way and getting the
word out about the many benefits of this practice. Were able to checkout some
areas in which they used prescription burning, they had us look at the scene
and call out any observations, they then explained to us the different things
that could cause a wild fire and things that could make wild fires worse. They
then showed us an area in which they were trying different treatments and
seeing which ways worked best. A mowed area, where they mowed down the field, an area that was thinned out by cutting down limbs off of trees that were growing under six feet of the body. We then were brought to an area where they burned and told us about the multiple benefits and how the animals enjoyed it as well. Prescribed burning has many benefits, which
include wild fire prevention through burning things that can cause wild fires,
providing nourishment to trees and other plants, and clearing paths for people
and animals alike.
Set up time:
Moved to the fire management facility for the night, it is a nice area with
pretty scenery. Thankful to them for letting us use their facilities, very nice of them. Set up camp, showered up…. Ahh a nice hot shower, ate dinner,
shared our thoughts about the prior nights events….. and finally off to
blogging and bedtime.
