POBR Day 13

7/17/19

Day 13, Captain's Log: Last morning in Klamath, lets eat up and go, long drive to the coast ahead of us. Ready for that ocean air.... ready to go home. Was a good drive not as long as I thought, at least it didn't feel like it after we were finally on the road. 

The beach: Ahhh the beautiful beach, gorgeous as always, and I always always feel so at home in the ocean water. Just something about it that calms me down some how. While I was taking in the breeze, the waves as they embraced me, as I rode each one into shore my body just floating along, surfing it up, my heart was heavy......I just missed my kids. They love the beach as much as I do, and we made a lot of happy memories on the beaches of beautiful southern California, and I am only 10 days shy of a month of being without them. That is just too long for me and I am struggling. 

Sunset: Finally the night is coming to a close, one last circle time, some of us share how we are feeling, give our thanks and say some goodbyes while we huddle around the beach fire. Bedtime has arrived and I am relieved, I'm very tired and emotional now and ready to get some sleep.

POBR Day 2

7/7/19 Day two, Captain’s Log:   Slept in 6:30 wake up time. Savored every second of sandman land. Heard a deer in the night/early morning, disregard, as its just a part of time being up here. First things first, breakfast. Nom nom nom. Bacon McMuffins. Fire toasted English muffins, can’t beat that. After our morning nourishment we split into small groups to set up our camera traps. Our objective is to set up these cameras in strategic areas, in hopes of capturing some interesting wildlife. To my surprise I got elected co-leader! First time for that as well, can make one feel nervous, I can’t lie, just don’t want to let anyone down. But you see it is my past experience with the area, being a bit more familiar with these hills, the land of my people, is what earned me this position. POBR Day 11

7/16/19 Day eleven, Captain’s log: On the road again, ready to move on to our next stop which I’m told is going to be full! Klamath, in beautiful southern Oregon. Woke up early on my own and started to wrap up my little mini home. We packed up camp as a whole and set out to collect our camera traps. Success! We captured some deer on a few cameras, a kid fishermen almost tripping, a biker, and some cars haha. As far as the camera we placed in the area where that chipmunk was we didn’t catch whatever animal buried it therel…… next time. That camera however did manage to get footage of a deer  so yay.  The majesty of Crater Lake: SO beautiful like beyond belief beautiful. Some of the bluest water I’ve ever seen. Was happy to have stopped here on our way to Klamath. We took in the breath taking view after our “moderate” hike haha. POBR Day 12

7/17/19 Day twelve, Captain’s log: Ouch: Woke up this morning feeling like I had gotten in a fight, like a physical fight…. My ribs were hurting me like crazy and super sore like I had been wrestling a bear in the night. Also a little nauseated. Which was a theme I’d find that would carry on for the rest of the day. A visit to the Klamath tribal fisheries and wildlife dept. we learned about the dire situation in which the local sucker fish species are in. Known to the people as C’waan (lost river sucker fish), one of 7 species that are endemic to this area are dwindling, due to several reasons, but one the biggest is the Lower Klamath Lake is being used for corporate agricultural purposes. In doing so they drain the water each spring by 5 feet to water their potato crops, a lake that is only 6ft deep! Water that is much needed for the survival of these fish.
